The Philippines has bested at least 2 European countries: France and Germany as well as three economically advanced countries: Canada, Australia, and Hong Kong in the 58th International Mathematical Olympiad (IMO).

Six (6) Filipino students won medals in the IMO, which is considered to be the Olympics of Mathematics and the greatest of Math competitions for high school students the world over.
The six students include Sean Anderson Ty, Clyde Wesley Ang, Albert John Patupat, Shaquille Wyan Que, Kyle Patrick Dulay, and Farell Eldrian Wu. Their individual feats kept the country on the 17th place out of 111 countries that participated in the event which was joined by more than 600 other contestants.
The top 3 winners in the competition were: 1.Korea, 2. China, and 3. Vietnam. The U.S. only managed to land at number 4.
Hong Kong was at 26th place with two other countries, Canada was at 29th, Germany made it to 33, at 34 is Australia, and France at 39th.

Among the six Filipino students who won in the IMO is Sean Anderson Ty, a student from Zamboanga.
